Automotive Sheet Metal Part Simulation and Tool Surface Derivation

In the Automotive Industry, Series Press Die Engineering and Manufacturing belongs to the rather later milestones within the Product Development Process. Standard lead- time of this phase between Planning Release (P-Release) and the Start of Production (SOP) is about 24 months long with a decreasing tendency. Due to heavy, worldwide competition among the OEM's, there is a strong necessity to reduce the overall time to market for new products. Supporting this aspect, versatile CAE solutions are applied industry- wide, during the part feasibility and press die development phase. Incremental deep drawing simulation, tool surface derivation features and design parameter optimization are just a few examples of the range of application of current software packages. The following paper describes the press die development steps, supported by examples of according CAE software solutions.
