Vehicle Weldspots Position Optimization for NVH

Modern vehicles bodies are mainly made of sheet metal panels connected by means of spot welds. A proper choice of the spot welds position is a crucial factor for the achievement of several performance targets. For this reason tools able to provide useful indications about the most efficient position of spot welds represent a great advantage in vehicle design.

In NVH field, by means of a TCL script for Altair Hypermesh it is possible to add to vehicle body FEM model a great number of potential spot welds. A topology optimization can then be performed in order to find the spot welds giving the highest contribution in terms of global modes frequencies.
